Frequently Asked Questions
What are you curious about?
Are your products nut-free?
Yes, our products are nut-free!
Are your products organic?
Great question! All of our products use Colorado organically-grown hemp plants. However, they are not “USDA-certified organic.”
Here are a couple of things we CAN say about our products:
Relief Oil: - Organically grown - Non-GMO - GMP quality assured - Vegan - Potency assured - All-natural
Relief Cream: - No BHT - No BHA - No parabens - No urea - GMP certified - No pesticides - No herbicides - Vegan - Potency assured - Free from known allergens
Are your products tested on animals?
Our products are not tested on animals. The pharma grade cream we use as part of our Relief Cream formulation has been used on animals as part of medical treatment (in other words, it’s been used to help human and animal!).
Are your products vegan?
Yes, our products are vegan!
Can I use your products if I am pregnant?
Please consult with your doctor before using our products during pregnancy.
Can I use your products if I have a medical condition?
Please consult with your doctor. CBD has many benefits that we’d love for you to experience, but since every person is different and has varying needs, we would not want to make any broad generalizations.
Can I use your products while taking prescription medication?
Please consult with your doctor. Some prescription medications can interact with CBD because CBD can impact how specific enzymes function in the body (some of which are enzymes that breakdown certain prescription medications). Your best bet is to check with your doctor.

How does CBD help? What is the ECS and why does it matter to me?
The ECS, or Endocannabinoid System, is a system within our bodies that is responsible for physiological processes like appetite, mood, memory and pain sensation. When you experience any internal or external stressors that disrupt your body’s function, the ECS activates to return your body to homeostasis - to rebalance you and help you function in an optimal way. Your appetite, sleep, mood, memory, immune system and much more are impacted by the ECS.
It consists of receptors throughout the body that, when activated, trigger a variety of effects related to how we feel.
CB1 and CB2 receptors are the currently known receptors in the ECS. CB1 receptors exist mainly in the brain and central nervous system, while CB2 receptors exist throughout the body, including in the peripheral nervous system, immune system and virtually all of our organs.
Much like a lock and key, certain cannabinoids bond well with certain receptors - for example, THC bonds well with CB1 receptors. The ECS was discovered as recently as 1992 in Israel, so there are still a lot of unknowns about the receptors within the system as well as how we can impact it and the extent of benefits it can have for our daily lives.

CBD specifically has a variety of possible benefits (although we’re always learning more about CBD as well as how it works in tandem with other cannabinoids).
Some of those possible benefits that research is still exploring and we’re most excited about are: - Anti-inflammatory - Antipsychotic - Antidepressant/Anti-anxiety - Antioxidant - Neuroprotective - Analgesic - Appetite Support - Vasorelaxant - Anti-nausea

How long will it take to receive my order?
It depends! Which shipping option did you choose?
UPS Ground Shipping ($7): 3-5 days
USPS Ground Shipping ($5): 5-7 days
How do you ensure quality? How are your products tested?
We currently use a third party called Botanacor to test every single batch we make.
They issue a certificate of analysis describing the test results and the quality of each batch.
We include a copy of the batch analysis inside of every single box that we send to every single customer. If you buy a bottle of Canvas 1839 cream then a copy of the batch analysis will come with it. We’d be happy to show you a copy if you’re interested.
How many times a day can I take your products?
There’s not a hard and fast limit on how many times a day you can use our products. In general, you should go by how you feel and use as needed.
For a few ideas, however, here’s how our team uses it:
Laura: I use the cream on my neck multiple times a day to help with stiffness and aches - any time I’m considering taking an ibuprofen for muscle or joint pain, I start with some cream instead.
Alexa: I recently had knee surgery and needed something that I could use daily to keep the soreness and pain at bay, especially in my role as a therapeutic riding instructor. Now, I use the cream every morning and can play all day with my horses and kiddos.
Alison: As a full-time working mom of two, getting good sleep is absolutely necessary. I use a full dropper of our Relief Oil before bed each night to help wind down so that I can actually fall asleep and stay asleep.
Monika: I manage chronic migraine symptoms with a variety of key habits, including incorporating a combination of our Relief Cream and Oil daily. I use the cream to soothe areas of achy tension like the neck, shoulders, and temples. And in the evening, I’ve found taking a full dropper of Relief Oil two hours before bed really helps my mind and body relax and ease me to restful sleep.
How much CBD is in your products?
Our Relief Cream contains 500mg of CBD isolate. Our Relief Oil contains 300mg naturally-occurring CBD and other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids.
How much of your products should I use?
Everyone’s ECS is different, which means there’s no right answer here. We recommend using our Relief Cream as needed locally anywhere you’re experiencing joint pain, muscle fatigue, etc. With our Relief Oil, we recommend starting slowly with around half a dropper (approximately 5mg of CBD) and repeating use as needed. Experiment a bit and find out what makes you feel your best!
How should I take Canvas products?
We offer both a topical product for local relief as well as a tincture for systemic relief.
Our Relief Oil is formulated from select Colorado-grown hemp and is 3rd party tested to confirm that it contains NO herbicides, pesticides, heavy metals or microbials. It does retain a broad spectrum of terpenes and phytocannabinoids that are naturally found in the hemp plant. Each dropper of our Relief Oil contains approximately 10mg of CBD.
Directions for Use: Shake well. Place half a dropper under your tongue, hold for 30-60 seconds, then swallow. Repeat as needed.
Please note: Every person’s ECS is different, and because of this, it can be difficult to advise how much of our Relief Oil you should take. We recommend starting slow (1-2 droppers per day) and increasing the dose as needed, but if you have any questions at all about your personal ritual of wellness, let us know - we want to help!
Our Relief Cream is a luxurious disappearing cream specifically formulated for optimal absorption and transdermal penetration, leaving a clean skin feel and no residue. Our Relief Cream uses CBD derived from select Colorado-grown hemp and is 3rd party tested to confirm that it contains NO herbicides, pesticides, heavy metals or microbials.
Directions for use: Apply directly to affected areas as needed and gently rub into the skin. Avoid contact with eyes.
I have not received my order – what can I do?
Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Is hemp seed oil the same thing as hemp oil?
No! Hemp seed oil, while extremely moisturizing and full of wonderful nutrients (including Omega 3s), does NOT contain cannabinoids. For a product to contain cannabinoids, including CBD, it must include byproducts of hemp flowers, not just the seeds or stalks.
What are shipping costs?
We provide USPS ground service for a flat rate of $5 or UPS ground service for a flat rate of $7. Shipping can take anywhere between 5-10 days depending on your order and location, but we’ll do our best to get your order to you as quickly as possible.
Free shipping is offered on orders over $75.
If you’re in need of expedited shipping, please contact us at email@example.com and we’ll do our best to get your order to you in the time you need.
What are the ingredients in your products (cream and oil)?
Cream: Purified water, isopropyl palmitate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, propylene glycol, PEG-20 cetostearyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 stearate, dimethicone, octyldodecanol, lecithin, ethylhexyl glycerin, phenoxyethanol, purified cannabidiol, artificial color, vitamin E
Our Relief Cream never contains parabens, dyes, sulfates, or phthalates and does not contain THC.
Oil: Cannabidiol hemp extract, MCT coconut oil, sunflower lecithin, stevia
What is a cannabinoid?
Cannabinoids are a class of chemical compounds that naturally occur in the human body (endocannabinoids) and in plants (phytocannabinoids). They interact with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) to trigger a variety of physiological reactions, playing a role in metabolism, food intake, sensory perception, memory, central nervous system development, and a number of other physiological functions.
In other words, they help you find balance in mind and body.
Cannabinoids and the ECS were discovered while studying Cannabis plants (hence the name!), however, scientists have since discovered that many plants, like echinacea and liverwort, also have helpful cannabinoids.
A cannabinoid can be anything from THC and CBD, to something that our body produces naturally, like 2-AG.
Cannabidiol, however, is the specific word for CBD (which is a cannabinoid!)
What is a tincture? How do I take it?
A tincture is a dietary supplement that comes in liquid form and has a potent cannabidiol content as well as additional terpenes and phytocannabinoids - it is often combined with a carrier oil.
To take our Relief Oil, place half a dropper (approximately 5mg of CBD) under your tongue. It’s best if you hold the oil under your tongue for 60 seconds, as this will allow for some of the CBD to absorb via your transmucosal membranes (bypassing the digestive tract), but only hold as long as you can tolerate, then swallow. Repeat as needed throughout the day.
We recommend starting with half a dropper, then adjusting your regular dosage based on what works best for you - everybody is different!
What is the difference between CBD and hemp?
Hemp is a member of the Cannabis genus of plants. It’s nutrient-dense and used around the world for a multitude of things, including rope, clothing, fiber, supplements, medicine (and is even being used in the manufacture of automobiles!).
The stalks and seeds of the hemp plant contain terpenes, flavonoids, amino acids, oils, chlorophyll, vitamins and other nutrients.
The flowers of the hemp plant contain cannabinoids, like CBD (cannabidiol).
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 naturally occurring cannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant. Both marijuana and hemp are members of the Cannabis genus, but hemp plants contain <0.3% THC, while marijuana plants typically contain ~10-20% THC.
CBD has been gaining momentum in the media and within the scientific community. Unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive, and therefore does not typically have an immediately noticeable effect.
What is the shelf life of your products? How should I store it?
Our Relief Cream will last for 1 year - please ensure that you’re replacing the lid and screwing it on after each use to keep the container airtight.
Our Relief Oil will last for 1 year - please store in a cool, dark place to best retain the phytocannabinoids and terpenes.
What kind of payments do you accept?
At this time we can only accept Visa and Diners Club. We will be able to accept Mastercard soon, but unfortunately right now they're doing a thorough review of all CBD payment processing—we should be able to accept Mastercard in early May. We are also working to add American Express as an accepted payment method and will offer that option as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause right now.
What’s the difference between hemp and marijuana?
Hemp and marijuana are both members of the same plant genus and species, Cannabis Sativa, however, they have highly different genetic profiles. Hemp is always a member of the Cannabis Sativa genus and species, while marijuana can be part of Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, or Cannabis Ruderalis. Hemp was bred for a very different purpose, so in comparison to marijuana plants, hemp plants tend to be more fibrous and taller with long, strong stalks and very few flowers. However, hemp is starting to be bred to produce more flowers as CBD has grown in popularity and usefulness.
Additionally, hemp, in order to be classified as hemp, must have no more than 0.3% THC, while marijuana plants typically have much higher THC yields.
Where are you based? Can I buy Canvas products in any offline retailers or stores?
Our team is based in Austin, Texas. We have strong relationships with Colorado growers, suppliers, manufacturers and testing facilities, though, because we wanted to work with the best in the business.
At this time, Canvas products are available online and in a few select retail shops in Austin.
Where can I find more information on clinical trials focused on CBD?
Where does your CBD/hemp come from?
We are extremely stringent about the CBD and hemp oil that we use. At every step, we ensure that our sources are providing the highest quality CBD isolate and broad spectrum hemp oil available today.
Our Relief Cream and broad spectrum Relief Oil are both sourced from Colorado. The farms we work with use organic growing practices, no herbicides, no pesticides, and sustainable environmental and business practices. Both of these sources of CBD have been fully vetted by Dr. Kyle Hammerick, our Chief Science Officer, to ensure quality, potency and bioavailability, and are monitored from seed to sale.
Where do you ship your CBD products?
We ship to all 50 states in the United States. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot ship outside of the United States.
Will I get high?
Our product will not get you high. Every batch of product is 3rd-party tested to ensure there is no more than 0.3% THC.
What makes Canvas' delivery systems different?
